
Today, Vodafone announced to launch the cheapest handset – Vodafone 150 in India at price of Rs. 700. In Indian market, Vodafone introduces ultra low-cost handset. Vodafone 150 mobile phone would be the first cheapest handset of the company.
Vodafone is the UK’s leading telecom service provider. Currently, it is one of the largest mobile service providers in India also. Vodafone has tried to grab the rural market of India to launch its Rs 700 ($16) mobile phone in the country.
Vodafone 150 handset is expected to push the company's rural agenda. Nokia, Micromax, Fly, Linkz and Ray already have launched low-cost mobile phone in Indian market to grab all types of customers. Zen Mobile already has introduced the cheapest and attractive handset – Zen X380 in Indian market.
First time, a telecom service provider has decided to go below the Rs 1,000-mark. Earlier, Vodafone had retailed a mobile priced at Rs 1,200. Vodafone is planning to launch ultra-cheap handsets starting at below $16 in the developing markets of Egypt, Turkey and Africa also.
Marten Pieters who is the MD and CEO in Vodafone Essar said, “The average user in rural India does not spend as much as mobile consumers in Delhi or in Mumbai. Though the majority still make a revenue stream for mobile operators, the idea is to make mobile phones affordable and achievable for everyone.” The statement was published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com, an online news portal of India. According to the statement, Vodafone has tried to target rural India by this phone. The company wants to make mobile phones affordable and achievable for everyone.
Vodafone 150 gadget will be retailed across the country in just Rs. 700. The company tries to make available a handset for everyone who is not capable in buying high-priced mobile phones.
Reliance and Tata Indicom already have launched the cheapest mobile phones with a connection. Now, Vodafone tries to be a competitor in this area. The handset will create some more customers for Vodafone in Indian market. Vodafone has already gotten the biggest popularity to launch Apple iPhone 3GS in India.
