About Indian Overseas Bank (IOB):

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) was established on 10th February 1937 by Shri.M.Ct.M. Chidambaram Chettyar. It was introduced as a pioneer bank in many fields - Banking, Insurance and Industry.

IOB had 38 branches in India and 7 branches abroad at the time of Indian independence. The Bank had deposits of Rs. 6.64 crore and Advances of Rs. 3.23 crore that time.

Indian Overseas Bank established a training centre in 1957 which turned into a Staff College at Chennai with 9 training centres in all over the country. IOB was one of the 14 major banks among nationalized banks in 1969. The Bank had 195 branches in India with aggregate deposits of Rs. 67.70 crore and Advances of Rs. 44.90 crore in 1969.

IOB engaged in an initial public offering (IPO) in the year of 2000. It acquired Adarsha Janata Sahakari Bank in 2001. It took over the business of Shree Suvarna Sahakari Bank in 2009. Bharat Overseas Bank acquired by IOB in 2007. It acquired the business of Bank of Tamil Nadu in 1990. The Bank launched Debit Card in 2005 and Visa Card in 2006.
