Canara Bank was founded as Canara Hindu Permanent Fund Ltd. on 1st July, 1906 with a capital of 2000 shares of Rs. 50 each with 4 employees. Canara Hindu Permanent Fund Ltd. renamed as Canara Bank Limited on 1910.
Canara Bank Ltd. became a nationalized bank on 19th July, 1969. It acquired Laksmi Commercial Bank Limited in 1984. Canbank Mutual Fund & Canfin Homes launched in 1987 by the Bank. It got ISO 9002 certification in 1995-96. It launched Internet Banking Services in 2003-04.
